Bandy Joyce was Band
Master. I remember Tony Belcher (my successor as Drum Major - I thought
he was a euphonium player) and Graham Bell (Broughton House25).
His brother, (Bell 11 as Charlie Wood called him,) real name Eric, was my
best mate. He played cornet and bugle. A few other names of that era
come to mind - Jack Biggs, Preston, Whinney, Eggledon, Brookes (Broughton House
50), Twinn, Hugo, Dennis Aysteran (F.Horn), Cawley, Dennis Bromhead (Base
Drum), R. Harrison (Eb Base), Watts (Drum behind me in the photo),
Cornthwaite (Drum on my left), Sandford (Trombone). I have good memories
of the band being the interval attraction at the Poole speedway when Ken
Middleditch was the star rider.
The Officers I remember
from Parkstone - The Captain was Felton, Commander's nickname was "Snowy",
Charlie Wood was the Broughton House Master, Busby was the Howard House
Master, while Butcher was Aranmore House Master, Sid Pointer - Sigs, the
Padre was John Slater (pictured in your gallery).
I served in the Royal Navy
from 1956 - '67; went to Australia in '72 and now live in New Zealand. I
called in at PSTS on August 21st this year on a visit home - had a look
around and found my initials on Broughton House wall.
I was sorry to read about
Paddy Carson he and I both came from
Macedon in Northern Ireland (DBH).
Look forward to hearing
from anyone from Parkstone.
